so we decided to climb up the flat irons!!
and there wasn't a cloud in the sky
and the pine trees along the path were really cool looking
and of course we had to take a picture like this
but anyway we started up the path
and after taking a break in a shaded area
and looked at the map and realized we weren't even close
(the bottom right corner shows where we were and we were going all the way in between the 1st and 2nd flat irons)
then we came upon an awesome old land slide
and after going up the stairs
we detoured off for a little bit
to check out the area where people start climbing the actual face of the flat irons
which we attempted to climb
but found it hard to do without harnesses and ropes
and being so steep and all
so we decided
to tan instead
then we went along the path just a bit further
and reached the top of the land slide
which was an awesome view in itself
then we came across these boulders
which we of course had to climb |
because we knew the view from the top was going to be amazing...which it was
then I climbed it
and I couldn't get over how amazing the view was
or how close to the edge we were
and how the trees were just growing on the edge
then we got to the top!
and it was gorgeous
and we climbed a little bit onto the top of the 2nd flat iron
and there was all this cool looking moss growing
the pictures really don't give it justice
then Jacob climbed
a little bit higher
onto the top of the flat iron
but then we saw the trail continued
and we realized
that it was bringing us to the top of the 1st flat iron
and the view from there was unbelievable
like we were 7,200 feet in the air
which meant
that I had to do a Tarzan call
and
take some explorer pictures
then we climbed a little bit higher on the flat iron
like check out that view!
it really felt like you could fly
and of course I had to do this
and
take
some self timer shots
:)
then we found the cutest chipmunk in the world!
and fed it
almonds straight out of Jacob's hand!
I can't believe I climbed that!
